“That there is a science of right thinking there is no doubt. We have uncovered much evidence for the basis of it and the way it works. The reason that we term the use of it as a science is the fact that it can be taught, it can be learned, it can be consciously applied with a certainty of definite and repeatable results. This is what we mean when we say there is a “science of mind.”

“From our point of view no one has any more ability in this respect than another. No one has any more power to use his thought in a creative way than another. We always need to guard against superstition, for it is so easy for the little truth we know to be clothed by so much superstition that finally we lose sight of its essence.”

These words from A NEW DESIGN FOR LIVING by Ernest Holmes and Willis Kinnear explain in clear terms the premise for the fundamental philosophy upon which the Church of Religious Science is founded. As Dr. Holmes so frequently stated, “It is simple, but I never said that it was easy!” It seems that so often the human mind has a basic desire to complicate things. This is what they meant by needing to guard against superstition or adding a lot of rules and regulations or rituals to the simple practice of Scientific Prayer or Spiritual Mind Treatment. As we change our thinking a change in our body or the body of our affairs must ensue, and we become the designers of our life experience. The Universe is at its foundation a conscious intelligent spiritual system operating through and as Law—the Law of Mind in Action empowered by Love.
