In THE SCIENCE OF MIND, Ernest Holmes gave the following definition of faith: “Faith is a mental attitude, so inwardly embodied that the mind can no longer deny it. Faith is complete when it is both a conscious and subjective acceptance. Faith may be consciously generated. In spiritual terminology, faith means a belief in the presence of an invisible principle and law which directly and specifically responds to us.”

As he said, faith may be consciously generated. For the pragmatic mind, it may be difficult to believe in the existence of something which can not be seen or measured, but as we follow the spiritual path, we begin to see more and more evidence of things that cannot be explained by the usual scientific methods…evidence of the effects of prayer on the course of disease and the spontaneous remission of illness which medicine alone could not heal, or the sudden appearance of the means to solve financial problems, or the healing of relationships among those who have been long estranged. We cannot find any other explanation of these apparent miracles except through the action of some invisible force that somehow works for us by working through us. As we continue to study and to follow our spiritual practices, our faith in this Power deepens with every manifestation that we experience. We will see it when we believe it!
