“Our Enlightenment is Assured!” May 6, 2034

Every change of season carries a metaphor for our progress along the spiritual path. During the dark days of winter, when so many trees and plants become dormant, it appears as though they may never return to vibrant life. Yet, with the warming rays of the sun, seeds deep in the earth burst forth into vibrant growth and branches show the bright green of a recurring cycle of life. In summer, the progress continues during the fruiting time, followed by the autumn harvest after which leaves fall, sap retreats back into the roots and the process becomes invisible. So it is with our process towards enlightenment, which quickens as in the spring, and we are filled with joy at the apparent speed of our progress as the summer increases that ripening process, promising a rich harvest only to be followed by what appears to be a cessation of growth and a retreat into unconsciousness. But that is only an appearance. As we continue with the metaphor, we come to understand that during what is called the dormant stage, the plant is gathering together the energy it needs for the next greater stage of growth. So, let us remember this during those times when we may feel that we are not making any progress towards enlightenment, that, once we have started the process, we are destined to continue that growth. The yearning inside for knowing our Oneness with all that is can not be denied, and it our inner recognition of this truth that gives us the courage to push through the stages of growth in our quest to reach our fullest potential in this human existence.
