Nurturing Our Relationships with Others and Ourselves

“We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it.” John Lennon

“Awakening Our Hearts to Love!” February 19, 2012

An oyster, ingesting a foreign object causing irritation, immediately begins to build a protective shell around the object to shield itself from further irritation. A human being, perceiving an emotional hurt, attempts to do the same thing, but he or she is not an oyster! Instead, we are a creation of Spirit, born to learn to express and receive love. Building a protective shield around the heart only blocks us from fulfilling our ultimate purpose which is to participate in bringing about God’s vision for the planet. The more we attempt to thicken the protective shell around our hearts, the deeper becomes the interior pain and suffering. Fortunately for many of us, something happens which breaks open that shell, allowing Love to emerge as an ever-increasing force for positive change. As we come into fuller recognition of our ultimate purpose in life, we can choose to not wait for something to break us open, but instead to release the fear of suffering, open our hearts and allow the Spirit within to blossom into fullness. There are only two forces in life…love and fear. Love is the stronger power. It has been said that fear is only “false evidence appearing real”, so let today be the day we fully open to that Love which is the truth of who we are, spiritual beings having a human experience with all of its potential for good.
